Welcome to Pig About Games.
I'm Pig and the rest ought to be self-evident, but (in case you're a fan of verbose introductions) I'm a pig that reviews computer games.
I grew up playing them, starting on an Amiga 500 in the 90s, moving on to a PC later in life, with brief forays into exotic PS2-land along the way. I enjoy them, when they are well-made, and enjoy writing reviews, so this site was not so much a matter of "if" but "when". I've dipped my trotter into reviewing games on other sites, but eventually decided I wanted a little sty of my own, so – here we are.
To me, games are a natural evolution of books and movies, better for the fact that (to an extent) you get to decide how they unfold. I'm a big fan of well-constructed narratives, in-depth world-building, clever game design and, yes, Proper Programming (because no amount of story, world, or design will help you if the game has a fondness for freezing or a knack for CTDs). I don't really have a favorite genre and enjoy any game that is well-made, but do have a fondness for open-world RPGs that you can keep playing after the main plot finishes (probably a tip of the hat towards my own mortality, but — what do I know? I'm a pig).
I'm not really into popular franchises or platforms like Steam (I get most of my games from Ebay or GOG), and I probably won't be at the forefront of new releases and Things That Are Popular At The Moment: I like paying for a game once and then playing it on my own, without someone looking over my shoulder (so to speak). So for those of you that enjoy, say, the latest Battlefield installment, or Soulslike-iteration-X, or Destiny, or Halo – we probably won't have much in common (though, who knows: wily Pig might surprise you).
But if you like games that are well-constructed, with intriguing design concepts or alluring stories, I hope we'll be seeing more of each other in the years to come (what can I say – I'm an optimist).
For now, I'll be trying to put out a review or a game-related article about once a week. If enough people write in, I might also do a regular feature responding to emails (that's if anyone writes in at all, heh). We'll see.
However this turns out, I hope you'll enjoy reading my articles at least half as much as I do putting them together.
Now – let's get this show on the road.
